City owner will pay for 6,000 fans to travel to Champions League final

Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour has agreed to cover the costs of fans travelling to the Champions League final, according to the club.
The city has been allocated 6,000 tickets for the match against Chelsea in Porto on May 29.

Many supporters who had qualified for a ticket to Portugal would have found the trip ‘unaffordable’ due to additional costs such as Covid tests and inflated flight prices, according to the club.

‘Thousands of City fans will receive support from the initiative, which is designed to relieve financial stress on fans who have endured – and are still experiencing – difficult circumstances as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic,’ according to a club statement.

‘Pep (Guardiola) and the team have had such an incredible season, and attaining the Champions League final after such a difficult season reflects a truly great moment for the club,’ Sheikh Mansour said.

‘Therefore it is crucial that as many supporters as possible have the chance to attend this great game, particularly those who have supported Manchester City for so many years, through good and bad times.’

Khaldoon Al Mubarak, the club’s chairman, expressed his hope that the scheme would allow fans to concentrate on the game rather than on how to pay for it.

Fans face numerous challenges, both financially and logistically, as they prepare for the final.

‘Hopefully, His Highness’ action plan will allow most of our fans in attendance to concentrate on enjoying the day rather than worrying about how to pay for travel costs, which have become even more expensive as a result of the pandemic’s effects.’
